Thank you all. I played with the various firmware versions, and found that the best for up speed was still 3351_2471201 - but setting the adsl txpct and adsl rxpct from 80 to 100 increased the upload speed to 2.1Mbps, which is probably about as good as I'm going to get.

I've seen several times that a connection set to Multimode doesn't always choose the Best type.

Have you tried manually specifying G.992.5 annexM ADSL2+ ?
