DNS issues with 2820 was created by robathome
I am wondering if anyone else is having weird DNS issues like we do. We have a 2820 with an ADSL and an ethernet/FTTC connection, and a server acting as a DNS server.
Pretty often, some or all people on our network can't get to certain websites, and it turns out they can't resolve the address. They can still ping the IP address, and actually put that IP in a browser and get something, and also RDP out to other servers, so internet is still up. Other people on the network CAN get to the same website, but not others. V strange, and I thought it must be a DNS issue on the server. However a reboot of the router fixes all the problems, for a while, so it must be the router.
I even temporarily put a different make router in and it worked fine for a while, but doesn't do all the tricks the Draytek does so it's not a permanent solution.
I have messed endlessly with local DNS settings on the PCs - putting in the server, 8.8.8.8, the ISPs DNS and the router as the main DNS server, all to no avail .The only fix it to reboot the router, which obviously isn't good for all the people who are still working away without problems.
It's on 3.3.5.1, but had the same issue on older firmware too.

I'd suggest a few things.
Try latest firmware 3.3.5.2
Internal folks to talk to your internal DNS server.
Set load balancing DNS requests to always go out via one of your WAN's with failover to the other WAN (this should narrow down in case of ISP problem).
Set your internal DNS server to perfom forward lookups to OpenDNS if it doesn't already know the answer.
If you are certain the Vigor router is the problem, whilst it's not ideal, perhaps the Scheduled Reboot may help ease the problem?

Neal, thanks for that will look into the DNS forwarding.
I want to implement the scheduled reboot, at least for now. Does this actually work? I tried it last night and it didn't.
Can you take a look at this setup to see if it's incorrect:

The duration needs to be 0h 0m for that to work for restarting the router.

Hi, I found some Draytek Instructions for this feature here:http://www.draytek.co.za/content/tinymce/plugins/openfile/uploads/files/faq_reboot.pdf
I've just checked the lastest available user guide V3.3 and it doesn't seem to be mentioned. Thank goodness for the Forum
