Inability to access FTTP (2860 and 2830)

Hello all.

Here's a puzzle that has been keeping me busy.

I have 3 Drayteks. Let's call then 2860 (which is a 2860n+), and 2830A (a 2830n+) and 2830B (also a 2830n+).

I moved across from FTTC to FTTP and couldn't get the 2860 to work. I know that FTTP was working because the BT Hub connected OK and provided the right kind of speed (~130Mb). I updated to the latest firmware available (3.8.9.7_STD) from the previous one (3.8.4.3_BT) and it still wouldn't connect. I know that the PPPoE configuration is correct (username/password etc.) because I can get this working with another Draytek router (2830A).

What I'm seeing is that the 2860 seems to connect OK. It identifies an IP and a gateway, but cannot get to the outside world. It's not possible to ping 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 and I get syslog errors saying that DDNS has access issues.

I tried this with 2830A and everything works perfectly (firmware 3.6.6.2_db_232201).
I tried this with 2830B (originally firmware 3.6.8.4_db_232201) and I got exactly the same issue as 2860. I then did a factory reset on 2830B and upgraded to the latest firmware available for it (3.8.8.3_db_232201) and 2830B still doesn't work, and doesn't give me external access. Everything else seems perfect.

My query is this:

I could imagine that the 2860 had some obscure setting added over the years that is stopping this from working. The working 2830A might suggest this.
However, if I then take a factory reset device (2830B) and upgrade to the latest available firmware, and it behaves exactly the same as the 2860, what is the common factor?

I'm under the impression that if I factory reset the 2860, it won't resolve the issue. If I go and buy another Draytek, I may get another one that randomly doesn't work.

Any thoughts?

A quick update to this. I regressed the firmware of 2830B (which also didn't work) to 3.6.6.2_db_244001. It now works.

The question then, is whether someone is using a 2860n+ that works and could you please share your firmware version? I'd like to see whether this is just a firmware problem with FTTP.

Ideally, I'd like to be using my 2860 rather than the slower 2830.

OK - problem now solved.

When I first used the automated process to search for a firmware update, it failed repeatedly. I have since tried it and it provided be with a firmware ending _BT.

Applied, and it all seems to work.
