VM 50mb - Vigor 2820n was created by spudster
Hi,
I'm getting Virgin Media 50mb installed soon and was wondering how people with the 2820n have been getting on with the pairing?
Any tips on setup? What should I be changing in the WAN2 settings, or is it relatively plug-n-play?

Hi,
My wireless N network currently transfers internal files at around 7.5MB/sec (60-65Mb) so I should see the full 50Mb wirelessly. The rest of my wired network is cat6 gigbabit under the floors.
Why set WAN2 to 100 half duplex as aposed to full duplex or auto negotiation?
Why opendns and not VM's dns servers?

100mb Half as it wouldnt work on auto (same prob on my 2900)
Opendns are faster and less likely to go wrong - I had loads of issues acessing websites using the VM ones.

surely half duplex is incorrect and will have a negative impact on the connection speed.
Half duplex, data can only be sent one way at any particular point in time?

Half duplex should still be fast enough. Try on full first.
Re OpenDNS, on VirginMedia the OpenDNS servers are 8 - 9 hops away whereas the VM ones are 4 hops away. My typical response time from the VM servers is around 15ms and around 25ms from OpenDNS, so, based on that, the VM ones are better. There is a program where you can test the response times and I'll see if I can find it when I get home.
I still use OpenDNS for security reasons.
