Static route between 2 subnets was created by saurabh.28j
Hi Friends,
I have got this good old problem but unfortunately cannot find the solution yet.
I have got a Draytek 2820n as the main router 1 and Draytek vigor 2955 as router 2.
I want to use both the routers for different purposes with DHCP on both.
Router 1 Lan subnet - 192.168.2.0
Router 2 Lan subnet - 192.168.3.0
-I have connected one Lan connection from router 1 (2820n) to the Wan2 port on router 2 (2955).
-Router 2 has a IP on router 1 as 192.168.2.42, I have binded this IP with router 2 mac.
-Router 2 Wan2 is connected fine and I have got internet access on router 2.
-Router 2 can also ping all the connection on router 1 fine.
-The only problem is Router 1 cannot communicate back or ping Router 2.
I have set the static route on router 1 to router 2.
S~ 192.168.3.0/ 255.255.255.0 via 192.168.2.42, LAN
Is there anything else I need to do here or I am doing wrong.
Thanks in advance.

That sounds like a firewall issue on Router 2.
The static route you have looks fine so traffic will be going to 192.168.2.42 but I suspect Router 2 WAN2 is blocking.
On the 2820 (and I suspect the 2955 is the same) under:
System Maintenance -> Management
You can "Allow Management from the internet" and "Disable PING from the internet". As traffic is coming to Router 2 from a WAN port it is treated as "from internet".
Also, do you have any port forwarding rules on Router 2 which could be redirecting the traffic?

Hi, Thanks for your reply.
No I have no port forwarding rules on router 2.
I have tried as you said to allow traffic from the internet with or without disabling ping. It still does not work.
Any more suggestions please?
Thanks!

Also, In system management after I untick "Disable ping from internet" I can ping 192.168.2.42 from my first router. However I cannot ping 192.168.3.1
Does that mean the static route is not working in the first router (2820n)? Or it is still a firewall issue on the second router (2955).
Can I completely disable the firewall in router 2 for the traffic coming in and out using router 1 - 192.168.2.42 or for everything as the connection is still covered by the firewall of first main router.
Thanks!

ok - try adding the route to the PC rather than to the router - just as a test.
Just to make sure I understand your setup.
Router1 192.168.2.1
PC connected to that router with a 192.168.2.x IP.
Router2 192.168.3.1
WAN2 (the connection to Router1) 192.168.2.42
PC connected to that router with a 192.168.3.x IP.
From the 3.x PC you can ping 2.1 router and 2.x PC.
From the 2.x PC you can NOT ping 2.42, 3.1 or 3.x PC
