Curious ? was created by johnny_UK
If I set wireless Lan on DHCP (Vigor 2820N) starting from 192,168,1,10 with a pool count of 10, how is it I can set my Lan ip manually from my mac on 192.168.1.25. I thought DHCP overides manual ip setting on any computer. The reason I ask is I keep seeing 192.168.1 33 !!! I don't have a clue where it has come from.
One other question if my wan ip ad shows as 188.222.189.98 why does it show as 188.222.184.0/ in the routing table?
More questions to follow on Domains...thought I better leave that one for now
Cheers

If you manually set the IP address on your machine, it will then ignore DHCP and won't make a request.
DHCP is there to dynamically allocate IP's, but devices have to 'ask' for an adress.
If you have an 'unknown' device on your network, use a utility like Netscan to try and find out what it is.
This will allow you to get the MAC address, and maybe even the system name.
The first thing to do though of course, is to make sure you have wireless security properly configured, and change the wifi password.
The 188.222.184.0/ in your routing table will be your gateway at your ISP.

Record the MAC address of 192.168.1.33 and put the first 6 digits in the following web page, it will at least give you the vendor :-

Thanks guys am learning all the time. Will check out 192.168.1.33 next time it shows. Wireless security is and has always been set ...wpa2.
Another question............
I have a domain name. If I point it to my static ip, will it show my server web on local host 192.168.1.11 ?
Cheers

To get a web server working inside your LAN, visible from outside you need to: -
1: probably change the web management port on the router to something other than 80, say 8080, System Maintenance >> Management : HTTP port (note that the new router url will be something like http://192.168.1.1:8080 )
2: set port forwarding for port 80 to 192.168.1.11: NAT >> Port Redirection: 1 :-
Enable: tick
Mode : Single
Service Name: Web Server
Protocol: TCP
WAN IP: All
Public Port : 80
Private IP: 192.168.1.11
Private Port: 80
3: Set the A record for your domain to 188.222.189.98 (presuming it is static) - or - redirect tohttp://188.222.189.98 if your domain host uses a forwarding system.
Test it usinghttp://188.222.189.98 because the domain change may take time to propagate.

Got it and it works. The only thing I got wrong was the primary dns. I know the DNS ip numbers but not the primary dns domain name, anyway I typed in dns numbers and it all works perfectly. Thanks again
