connecting 2820vn to sky broadband router was created by casino
Hi
I am posting for a friend as they do not have access to this forum, i.e. no membership.
He has just signed up to a sky package but did not realise that you have to use their router for the internet, bizarrely enough the sky router resets back to factory default every time it is switched off and on again not retaining any settings. As you can understand that after purchasing a 2820vn a little while ago he is not a happy chappy.
does anyone know if you can connect the 2820vn to the sky router so he can still use the settings that he has set up on the 2820vn that drops ip's from the internet at certain times ect.
So use the sky router to connect to wan and the 2820 as lan and all lan ip connections to the 2820 with the 2820 picking up the internet through the sky router.
Any help would be appreciated as his hair is slowly falling out after several angry conversations with sky support.
Hope all that makes sense.
Thanks
Chris

Could you uncover the connection username and password (Google sky broadband username and password) then put these in to then Vigor, also clone the MAC address from the sky supplied unit?

Hi
we have looked at that route and the ways of obtaining the user and pass as sky do not and will not provide this but we are also under the impression that they will know we are not using the sky router and they cut the line speed by half.

I've not seen that with anyone I've helped with the same issue. Just get the username and password +MAC from your Netgear unit and give it a try You'll be able to see from the Vigors stats the connection speed very easily

i think we may have to give that a shot.
can i ask where we input the cloned MAC address?, i guess this tricks sky in thinking that we are using their router?
also will the skybox still be able to use the vigor as it would do the netgear sky one.
thank you for your help.

Have a similar issue with the 2830Vn, cannot get it to work on the adsl and looks like the line only supports MER as when I tried PPoA and PPoE I get a message back saying "unavailable". Using MPoA bridged LLC I see packet count increasing in Tx and Rx and the line up/down speeds, but just doesn't get an IP at all. So for the moment I've set the 2830 up in the DMZ and running it that way, but would love to take the sky f@ast2304 out of the path.
