Draytek IP DHCP Pool issues. was created by crush8386
Hi,

I have an issue which I can't understand. we have 400 clients trying to connect to the draytek to get an DHCP address.

The draytek IP is 172.16.0.254 Subnet mask is 255.255.0.0, this is under network config. for nat usage.

on the right hand side.. I've got

enable DHCP server start IP address 172.16.1.0
IP pool counts 253 ***** will come back to this... ****
Gateway IP address 172.16.0.254
Lease Time 32400
and DNS is 172.16.0.254

to me the above looks like a class B network however I can't extend the IP pool counts more than 253 if I do i.e. put 400 in its automatically renames it back to 253.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks
Lil :?:

I believe 253 is the limitation of the router itself.

You could however set up VLAN's - which would give 253 addresses on each VLAN.

Just a thought.

Hi thank you for replying - is there no way of extending this at all?

You didn't say what model is it...but I guess 2860/2925?
Perhaps you could subnet the LAN further ? (two C classes ?)

the model number 2920n does this help? thanks? unless I'm doing something wrong I would of thought it could have given more than 254 ip addresses? - maybe not?

I'm not sure if the 2920 can do multiple subnets or larger than a class C.
