Smarthub vs Draytek 2860n was created by richard.hewitt
Why does my BT smarthub give me faster speeds than my vigor 2860n?

The draytek connects fine and gives me a stable connection, but the download speed is only around 12mps. When I replace it with a smarthub 6 it gives me download speeds of around 18mps.

I've updated the firmware to 3.8.9.2_BT but no change. I've also played around with as many settings as I can but no difference.

I need the extra features of the vigor (eg VPN etc), but it seems to give me a substantially slower connection.

Help please!

Many thanks

Hello :)

Can you post screenshots of your setup? WAN setup settings, MTU, and the DSL status page in maintenance menu

You can put MTU 1500, it is supported

In WAN1, you could leave the default settings for the ADSL section, so PPPoA, multimode etc. Do you have BT infinity?
What if you keep WAN1 mode to auto and not vdsl2 only? When you have the Hub connected, if you log into it, can you see if it is working with special settings, or the type of line, like vdsl or adsl etc.?

Thanks. Changing the MTU made no difference.
I have BT Infinity (business) and it is definitely a vdsl line.
The Hub just seems to be in standard setup - I can't see any special settings.
Thank you

The MTU won't make a difference in the line speed, more in the reliability

Is the smarthub 6 coming with a built-in VDSL modem or are you using Openreach's modem white box?

You should be able to check in the BT Hub's web interface if it is working in vdsl2 (and not ADSL2+) and what line characteristics the line has
