Central Switch Management with DrayTek Routers
Expired
Set up your network in minutes with DrayTek's Central Switch Management which allows you to easily manage and monitor your DrayTek VigorSwitch from your DrayTek router, avoiding the need to log into multiple devices to manage your network.
Central Switch Management allows you to easily apply VLAN configuration and other port settings. Set bandwidth rate limits and schedules for individual ports. Log switch events for alert notifications if network problems occur and at a glance see the devices connected on your network.
Overview
Central Switch Management is built into DrayTek Vigor routers, in the Central Management section of the router's web interface.
DrayTek Switch management allows you reduce time taken to set up complex networks, multiple subnets and VLANs, without needing in-depth knowledge of VLAN tagging. The time consuming steps of configuring VLANs for each port is handled by the router instead.
VigorSwitch settings can be provisioned through the router, even remotely. Simply log in to the router's web interface to set up your VigorSwitch switches, using a single standardised interface to apply settings to different switch models.

Switch Hierarchy
Central Switch Management with a DrayTek router determines the network layout of all connected VigorSwitches and their port usage, giving an instant overview of which ports are active on each switch and how they are connected to each other and the router:
A Green Circle indicates a port that's currently active and in use, with the arrows indicating which ports are used for uplink & downlink between switches.
Click on a port to view details of what's connected to that port, with the option to shut down or enable the port.
Switch Status
Add a new VigorSwitch to the router's Central Switch Management from the Switch Status screen, which shows the current status of connected switches:
Detailed Switch Information
Detailed Switch Information lists the connected switches, click on a switch to drill down in to the details for a single switch:
- Switch Status
- Switch Port Status
- Like the Switch Hierarchy, this displays which ports are in use and which are disconnected or disabled
- Port Status
- List the switch ports with all important settings collected into one place
- IP & MAC address of device currently connected to that port
- VLAN configuration with tag value and VLAN mode
- PoE status and power consumption
- Port & PoE Enable/Disable option
- Schedule status
Connect USB Storage to the router for these additional features:
- Switch Traffic
- View logs of traffic usage per switch, with graphs of Received and Transmitted data per day or over the week
- Switch Connectivity & Alerts
- Display a graph of the switch uptime and Daily or Weekly Alerts for connectivity and port events
- List the times of connection issues
- List events recorded by the Central Switch Management - Alert & Log system
Provisioning
Provisioning VLAN Configuration
Easily set up VLANs on a connected VigorSwitch with a Switch Management profile for that switch, with a standardised interface for VLAN configuration in Central Switch Management. Central Switch Management displays only the VLANs that are in use on the router that's managing the switch, automatically populating the list of VLANs and VLAN tags.
Tick the VLAN tickbox for each port to add it in to a VLAN and select which VLAN it defaults to with the Remove TAG (PVID) selection..
To provision the switch, just click Send to Device and the router will apply the new VLAN configuration:
Configure Port Schedules & Rate Limits
Central Switch Management provides an easier way to quickly configure all of your connected VigorSwitches, with a standardised interface to control settings on all DrayTek VigorSwitch models. The port settings for each port, such as Rate Limits and operating schedules can be set from the Port section of the VigorSwitch's management profile:
Description |
Set a name to identify each port easily |
Port Control |
Manually enable or disable the port, or set it to operate on a schedule |
Schedule |
Set a schedule on the router and apply it here to have the switch enable/disable the port on a schedule, or enable/disable the PoE to that port (PoE models only) |
Rate Limit |
Specify the Ingress (Tx) and Egress (Rx) rates for each port |
Copy Configuration between Switches
Switch Management profiles created on the router can be applied to other switches, copying VLAN and port settings between dis-similar switches and automatically translating the configuration to work between different switch models:
Alerts & Logs
Alerts and Logs with Central Switch Management
The DrayTek Vigor router managing a group of switches with Central Switch Management can perform more detailed monitoring with USB storage (not supplied) connected.
This allows the router to monitor the status of connected switches and their ports, as well as tracking the overall data usage of each connected switch.
Alerts
The Alerts system in Central Switch Management provides a highly configurable system for the managing router to monitor port events and general switch connectivity.
It can be configured to simply log events in a searchable database or send email / SMS alerts depending on the severity of the fault. Each port and different switch events can be configured with different alert & log severity levels.
Configure up to 8 different Alert levels to:
- Log the event
- Send Mail Alerts (up to 4 recipients per event)
- Send SMS alerts (up to 4 recipients per event)
These link with the router's SMS and Email alerts system, with up to 10 different email recipient addresses and 10 SMS recipient numbers.
Each port can be set with its own severity level for different port events.
For instance, a Network Video Recorder (NVR) system disconnecting would generate a "Major Alert" while an access point disconnecting could generate a "Moderate Alert".
With the multiple Alert levels, it's possible to configure different alerts to send to different recipients, so that the correct people are notified if a disconnection occurs.
Logs
View logs for each VigorSwitch in the logs section.
Select the types of Alerts/Logs and which switches to view the logs for and the Vigor router will display the dates and times of recorded events, within the last 24 hours or the last week.
This records and displays each event with this information:
- Date & Time of event
- Severity
- Type of Alert
- Switch Name
- Which Port triggered the Alert
- Event Details
Maintenance
Maintenance
Central Switch Management can be used to remotely perform maintenance tasks on any connected VigorSwitches.
Backup or restore configuration files without accessing the web interface of the VigorSwitches.
It is also possible to remotely reboot a switch or multiple switches, or factory reset the switch so that it can be re-provisioned by the router:
