Failed 2830n???? was created by stevencavanagh
Hi,

I purchased the above and duly configured it yesterday without problem.

Today I was in the process of adding wireless access control when all of a sudden the web browser hung up and could not be recovered. At that point the router appeared to be rebooting itself and the internet connection was lost. I could no longer ping the router either.

Cycled the power to the router without success and tried a factory reset but this also failed.

Re-connected the old Netgear router and everything came on line, so cables, ISP etc all healthy.

At the moment the 2830n is sat powered up but with no DSL or ethernet cable plugged in and it still keeps rebooting.

All lights except DSL come on for a second, then go OFF
Active, DSL, CSM & USB come on steady for approx 3 secs
All the ethernet ports flash momentarily
QOS goes steady and Active light flashes
Active light goes out and DSL flashes
Active light goes steady
DSL light flashes & QOS light steady

and round and round it goes!

I suspect the router is knackered but all suggestions or shall I pack it up and send it back

Steve

I suspect the

Maybe try and flash the firmware with the .rst file using tftp:

If you need to enable TFTP mode on the router manually, do as follows : Turn OFF the router (use the power switch or remove the power plug). Using a ballpoint pen, press and hold the Reset button on the rear of the router. You do not need to press hard; you will feel the button gently click. Whilst still holding the button pressed, turn the router back on. You can release the button once you can see TFTP mode is enabled frfom the LEDs (that should be almost immediately) When TFTP mode is enabled, the first and second LEDs will flash together as shown on the left.

Full waffle here: http://www.draytek.co.uk/support/kb_vigor_reflash.html

Fingers crossed...

Neal.

Unfortunately, I'd already returned the unit before I read your post.

Anyway, thanks for the tip.

Have duly got another and it appears to be working except I keep getting IP conflicts showing up in the DHCP table.

The DHCP scope is set as 192.168.0.2 for a length of 50
The router is set up as 192.168.0.1
I have bind IP to MAC for addresses :-

192.168.0.4
192.168.0.5
192.168.0.8
192.168.0.11
192.168.0.16
192.168.0.17
192.168.0.18

However, I keep getting IP conflicts on addresses (the MAC address given is that of the Dratek):-

192.168.0.255 CONFLICTED IP
192.168.0.0 CONFLICTED IP
192.168.0.1 CONFLICTED IP

For the life of me I cannot understand where these are coming from.

Any help appreciated.

Managed to screw this router up to, but at least I know why.

Everything was running fine and I attempted to add multipul MAC addresses to the wireless access list and as soon as I hit ADD the router locked up and started continuously rebooting itself.

Cycling the power has no effect

Any ideas

I'm seeing the same behaviour on a new 2830n.

In Diagnostics >> View DHCP Assigned IP Addresses

LAN1 : 172.16.155.1/255.255.255.0, DHCP server: On
Index IP Address MAC Address Leased Time HOST ID
1 172.16.155.255 00-50-7F-7C-EE-C0 CONFLICTED IP
2 172.16.155.0 00-50-7F-7C-EE-C0 CONFLICTED IP
3 172.16.155.1 00-50-7F-7C-EE-C0 CONFLICTED IP

These are all against the routers own MAC address.

I'm also seeing DHCP assignment problems. I've set a couple of static addresses for devices.

1 is correctly assigned. The other is not. For the device that is not picking up its static address, it is picking up a pool address, though this pool address changes with each request from the device.

Can someone from Draytek please confirm if this is a hardware/firmware issue or a config problem.

I've also seen an additional problem with this 2830 in that I configured and tested it in my office and then shipped and installed it on site. At some point the devices config has been lost as the 2830 was at factory defaults.

You'd need to ask them directly.
