VoIP over 3G on 2800 ? was created by martinsq
I saw that someone is making a 'MIFI' with VoIP, unfortunately it costs £400 !
Then I thought why not use 2800V(G) for that ?
Has someone done it ?
Don't the mobile operators block VoIP ?
I tried Xten software over my Orange 3G, did not work.
Any advice gratefully received.

Martin

Since nobody here replied, I sent the question to Draytek UK, and got pretty well instantenous reply:

The 2800VG would be able to make a VoIP connection when using 3G
without any problems, however it is true that many 3G providers do
block VoIP. One exception that I'm aware of to that issue is Three -
they also give out public IP addresses which would resolve NAT
problems with a VoIP connection as well.
NAT will cause problems with VoIP on the router unless you've
configured a STUN server on it - most 3G providers do give out a 10.x
address which is NATted and otherwise inaccessible from the internet
so you'll need to configure STUN or the NAT settings with your VoIP
provider.

Regarding the 3G support - the Option 515m dongle is not supported on any
Draytek router currently although the 2800 would not be able to
support it as it is not being updated any further than the latest
2.8.2.1 firmware.
The E160G and E160E are both known to work with the 2800 router, the
differences appear to be mostly branding - if you're not able to get
an E160 modem to work with the 2800VG, make sure you've got the
2.8.2.1 beta firmware as that does add significantly improved 3G
support.

David

Alas I have no Three's 3G transmitter in the vicinity, just Orange....

I've done it but not in the config you describe.

2820n (not a V) with a 3g mobile dongle attached (o2).

Use it to VPN into another 2820 and connect a VP350 to my PBX, works a dream. Set up tested as I''ve got a stand at an exhibition and wanted a telephone .

Only problem I noticed was the VPN doesn't stay connected as long as the mobile connection, don't know why this is and it doesn't seem to impact the operation of the phone.
