2930 VOIP + Standard Phone

Hi
I have a 2930v with the latest firmware. I have set up SIP account in the router (Plusnet) and it is showing as registered.
I have plugged a standard phone into the router (port 1 which is also selected in the SIP accounts to ring) but there is no dial tone. When I dial the telephone number allocated to this account it rings (not the phone) and then goes to voicemail so I know it must be registered OK.
Do I have to use a specific type of phone? I am just using a plane Jane phone.
Are there any other settings I need to configure for this to work?

Fixed myself, didn't realise you needed to use a splitter with it!
