SSH - Server refused to allocate pty was created by 9swampy
I've been struggling to set up an SSH tunnel to run VNC through. I've a VNC server running that I can use direct via port forwarding. I can connect to the Vigor 2820 via SSH, but immediately after entering my password I get a message "Server refused to allocate pty". What is this telling me? Is it relevant to why I can't seem to do anything through SSH tunnels I've configured?

I'm using PuTTy client. I've configured tunnels with localhost port 6900 forwarded local IPv4 to the IP of the destination PC port 5900. Nothing happens.

I've tried the same to an FTP client running; no response at all.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

not sure this helps much but I have a similar problem when managing my router from the internet via SSH, same error message.

If I connect first to a linux server inside my network, then ssh back to the draytek all seems fine!
