I've been experiencing some real connectivity problems with my trusty old 2600VG for some time now, so I decided to update the firmware. I have updated the firmware previously (some years ago now) and don't remember having any issues with it

The current firmware is "2.5.5.3 UK". I am trying to update it to "2.5.8.3 UK". I have used both the update tool and the old tftp tool and in both cases, the new firmware seems to be transferred ok (very fast transfer though - less than a second - is this normal?). The router then seems to be doing its thing writing the firmware to flash and after a couple of minutes it reboots. All as expected.

Throughout the process, I get no indication of any problems, but when it comes up again, it's still version 2.5.5.3 - the update seems not to be installed. Any ideas?
