Vigor 2820 Filtering Subscription Service was created by bigchrisuk01
Hi,
I want to block my kids from using peer to peer file sharing and accessing adult sites and news groups.
I was going to buy some hardware and the vendor told me that I can enable web filtering through subscription with draytek.
Help does anyone know how I can set this up please?
Cheers
Chris.

No subscription is currently needed, though that may change.
Many moons ago it used be about £35 a year subscription, its was all done via the routers MAC address through the router, but its been free for about 3 years now, but who knows if that will change, either way at £35 a year it was still damn cheap compared to some others.
The draytek will do all that you want and much more, but it can be a little complex to start with.
I have managed with much trial and error to set mine up to limit 3 different groups of people in my house, the kids, me and the misses, and the adult daughter. each profile has different web rules, IM rules and different rules at different times of the day.
best thing to do is write down what you want to achieve and make a plan first before attempting anything - also start with a few simple filters to get a feel of what happens and when. You can also ask questions here and someone (maybe me if I see it) will be happy to help, although it is sometime quite difficult to explain things. Its a shame these boards dont do PM's as I would be happy to talk through things over the phone, but I'm not posting my number here!!

So I have managed to find the groups where I tick box and where I can block protocols like limewire etc.
But how do I block newsgroup servers?
How do you create it so rules apply to my kids and diff ones for the adults?
Cheers
Chris.
IP Addresses are assigned dynamically.

On mine there is a protocol object where you can block different types of protocols.
But you will have to "bind ip to mac" so you can setup rules based on IP objects, assuming they use a different PC.
