Hello,

Last few days I have been experiencing a problem with my 2820.
After a period of time (can be hours/days) I will not be able to connect to any internet pages.

I cant ping them by name, but I can ping them by IP address.

I can fire up dial up connections on my XP box (VPN) into my work and it works fine, which then lets me surf the internet (using it as my gateway).

So this would indicate a problem with DNS.

But my ISP have checked and cant see any issue.

If I turn router on/off it starts working again, but can be not working again within hours.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Simple setup.

Model Name : Vigor2820 series
Firmware Version : 3.3.0
Build Date/Time : Oct 8 2008 16:04:36
ADSL Firmware Version : 211801_A Annex A

Thanks

Gekko

I've had the same issue a couple of times recently, but not with that sort of frequency (maybe once a week). There are a lot of network issues in the UK at the moment, mainly caused by BT, even though most ISP's are playing dumb (or maybe they are dumb who knows!).
Do you have your DNS servers dynamically assigned from your ISP? If so then try checking if you get the same ones after the reboot, it could be that the reason a reboot fixes it is that you're getting different server IP's.

Thanks for the reply.
Yep checked the DNS settings and they are the same.

I am with a smaller "independant" isp, so I am on good terms with them and have been speaking to them about this issue, but they cannto seem to find an issue.

I can Ping the isp DNS server , even when I cannot surf the internet...

It is very weird.

Will keep troubleshooting, have an old 2600 lying around, will try that and see if I get any luck.

Thanks

Hi Gekko

I have similar issues and I think I have boiled it down to viata OS on the laptop I'm using most of the time.
Although a couple of weeks ago I could get nothing to work for a day.....

I've raised another issue on this.......

Thanks for the comment.

I have the issue accross different OS's.

Yesterday I unplugged the router from the wall and plugged phone connection back in, it is now not seeing the ADSL signal on the line.

Is it possible that the router was keeping a failing line alive??

Who knows but now I have no connection and the "issue" is in the hands of my ISP.

Will report back.

Andy
