Definitive BeThere setup with 2800G? was created by andypcarpenter
Hi all,

I've just switched from BT ADSL to BeThere's ADSL2+ service and noticed that my WAN connection is resetting after about every 8 minutes.

Does anyone have a definitive setup for BeThere ADSL2+ that works for the 2800G?

Any help would be appreciated.

After going through these forums I've noticed that some have asked BeThere for setting 20 which I've asked for but no real difference.

I'm on the latest stable release of firmware.

Many thanks,

Andy.

You could change your profile in the member centre to 'Optimise for Reliability' and see if that helps, and make sure 'Gaming Mode' is off.
This sets your target SNR to 9 on an interleaved profile, and should help if it's a line related issue.
ADSL2+ is much more susceptible to line noise, so you need to do all the usual stuff to eliminate internal wiring problems and find out if it is a line problem. (Check out the Be Forum)
Have you connected the BeBox? - Can it maintain a stable connection?

The 2800 series is not great on Be. I use a 2820 and have had no problems with this newer model.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. I've changed that setting on the member centre and still the router keeps dropping the link every 8 minutes or so.

looks like i'll have to swap out the draytek and go with the bebox - i can't have the connection dropping that often.

oh well.

Thanks for your help.

Best regards,

Andy.

Hi all,

Well, after switching over to the BeBox and that crashing 4 times (my god, this has to be the worst router in the world to configure!!) in one day, I'm back to the Draytek 2800G (hoorah?)

I'm now back in the situation where it keeps dropping the connection every 10-15 minutes. Here are my settings. If anyone could check them against their 2800 I'd appreciate it.

If anyone can suggest a router that will keep this connection reliable I'd also appreciate the info.

ISP: Be Internet ADSL2+

Draytek 2800 settings:

Latest stable firmware
MPoA (RFC1483/2684) Mode
Encapsulation: 1483 Bridged IP LLC
VPI: 0
VCI: 101
Modulation: ADSL2 Auto (G.992.3) *note see below.
RIP Protocol: Disabled
Bridge Mode: Disabled
QoS Type: UBR

PPPoE/PPPoA Disabled

Be Member Centre settings:

Optimised for Reliability
Gaming Mode: off

*note: I've tried the following modulation types, none seem to improve matters: ADSL2+ Auto (G.992.5) and ADSL2+ Annex M

I haven't tried Multimode - no idea what that does.

Any help anyone could give would be extremely appreciated.

Thanks and best regards,

Andy.

Well the first thing you need to do is make absolutely sure it isn't a line fault.
Connect your router to the TEST socket and see if the behaviour is the same. Do a Quiet Line Test as well, and if there is any noise on the line then report a VOICE fault.

If you rule out the line, then I suggest you have a look at the Draytek 2820. Or if you want a cheaper option visit the Be forums and ask in there. Netgears appear to be popular.

Hi,

I don't think it's a line fault.

The 2800G worked perfectly with the BT connection we had before it (although that was only ADSL2)

The BeBox worked perfectly (before I threw it out of the window!)

I do have a Netgear DG834G that I can try - maybe I'll have better luck with that?

Thanks and best regards,

Andy.
