Blocking mail from a country domain was created by onside
Hi - is there a way to block incoming mail from an entire country ? We're receiving a lot of spam from Russia at present.

Vigor 2600vg with a SBS2003 server. (Can't find a way to use exchange to do this)
Thanks for any suggestions

The only way I can think of is to create a firewall rule that blocks inbound smtp (tcp port 25) from the allocated countries ip address ranges.

See here for a list > http://www.countryipblocks.net/country-blocks/cidr/?country=RU&view_country_ips=Submit+Query

Many thanks for your suggestion and the link - I checked this out but there are hundreds of ip ranges for russia. How would I get these into a filter rule ?

you could consider third party options like ironport, brightmail or messagelabs. Not cheap but the payback on wasted time for users could make a case stand up

I can heartily recommend the Barracuda Networks spam and anti-virus devices to sit between your router and email users, absolutely excellent piece of kit, we've had one for about 2 years now, and blocked well in excess of two million spam messages on a 100 user system.

Thanks for your suggestions. Have checked them out but we're on a tight budget with only 4 users. So free or low cost is what we're looking for but I think that's probably like looking for the holy grail. Thanks anyway. It's a shame Exchange doesn't provide a simple check box for blocking 'ru'
