Speed checking was created by chrisuk
Since installing a 2710N a week or so ago, I have been monitoring my connection speed using plusnet’s speed checker. It is generally much better than I got with my old modem but I do notice a big difference in speed between off peak and peak time. E.g. I average 2600kbps in the morning and around 250kbps late afternoon onwards. I have raised this with plusnet and at the moment they are not being very helpful. They told me to use the BT speed checker (speed tester.bt.com) and this gives me a constant 2600kbps.
I am suspicious, does anyone know if the BT checker maybe goes direct to BT and not via plusnet? My logic suggests that it is an overload at plusnet and they are not coming clean.

Check SIN 482 on http://www.sinet.bt.com I believe this might have some info regarding your question in section 5.3

Thanks, thats a lot of info. I will see if I can understand it tomorrow. Using BT speed checker just I got 2800kbps but using other checkers they averaged about 200 !
