does anyone know what the actual hardware of these units is, what processor, how much RAM???

i believe they use a samsung arm 333mhz cpu, 32mb ram and 8mb flash memory.
not too impressive on specs to be honest.

If you have a look on here, it suggests it has a dual core 333mhz cpu from Infineon: http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/bc/hardware/?action=h_view&model_id=712

i asked because i am having a problem where when i have lots of traffic going through, i start to get 50% packet loss.
i thought that it may just be running out of power as i have the vigor with 2 site to site VPNs, about 7 road warrior VPNs, QoS, and web filtering!
do you think it could be running out of power?

That could be a memory leak on the router, telnet into it and enter this command:
sys qrybuf
In the flowtrack memory status, check that the # of free doesn't go to 0, otherwise you'll see the kind of packet loss you're seeing. That depends a lot of the types of traffic going through it but afaik it's specific to the 3.3.3 firmware and there is beta firmware that fixes it.
