Is it possible to connect the DrayTek Vigor 120 ADLS modem to a router through a homeplug compatible powerline adaptor? Would the router work just as if it were plugged into the modem directly via a network cable?

It certainly should do. The homeplug effectively pretends to be a CAT 5 cable.

I'd get it working first by directly connecting and once ok then plug the 120 into one powerline and the router into the other powerline and it should just work

As a recommendation - I've used the NetGear XAVB101 set which I get nearly 180mbps out of. (The adaptors are in two separate rooms on the same floor of the house.)
