I've just bought a new 2820vn.
I'm not a specialist and have a feeling that there was a good reason for that Draytek had put it under Business devices section... It seems to be too complicated for me...I'm not complaining about it; it's not their fault that most of it is Chinese for me...I'm willing to learn but cannot afford to learn an entirely new for me profession because of lacking time...

When I started setting it up I was surprised that in the manual (269 pages!) I was unable to find any information about how to setup the USB port for NAS. First I thought that maybe I misread it that there is such a function...
But then I found some info in this forum (thanks for that!), however cannot get through the Mapping... It seems that something is not letting it to read the proper user and password info, because I'm pretty sure that I'm trying the right username and password.
It's a simple 4GB Kingston memory stick with no physical switch to disable writing, formatted to FAT32. I can see it on my network but when I attempt Mapping Network Drive it gives a message Logon Unsuccessful... :?:

I'd appreciate any advise!

Otherwise what do you think, shall I return it and get the 2130 instead? Is that more user friendly?
However in that case I'll need an additional SIP compatible device like the Linksys PAP2T to be able to receive calls through VoIP. Also I'll need a Vigor 120 as the 2130 is a cable modem and I'm on ADSL. So, not sure if replacing this with three other devices would make my life easier.
On the other hand there would be a benefit from having a faster USB on the 2130 (Draytek CS told me it'll have about 40-50MB/sec compared to 12MB/sec of the 2820). I'm not sure if the 2130 USB port is compatible with anything else than FAT16 and FAT32? I've got nearly everything formatted to NTFS...

An alternative solution for people like me would be to have a dual interface on the 2820: one for pros and another for dummies  I think there are people who would need the services/features of the 2820, but lacking specialist knowledge. :?
Thanks a lot!

Its probably not an issue with the router setup but with your operating system

"You need to set Vista to send LM rather than NTLM authentication.
Change:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\LmCompatibilityLevel

Set this value to 1( is default on 3) "send LM and NTLM " "

Hi,
thanks for your reply.
I had a feeling that it's time for change, so throughout the following days I'll install Win7 on my laptop. Hopefully it'll solve this issue as well.
If not I'll get back here... :)
Cheers.

Windows 7 and Vista both have the same issue with the USB NAS, it's because they lock out support for lower versions of Samba without that registry setting change.

Thanks for the registry stuff. I've also received it kindly from Draytek support. :)

I've done it and can now map the drive, however I cannot see there any files...I can copy into it from my laptop, but the stuff that was already there is invisible... I can see all files from the File Explorer that is accessible from the admin menu, however it has very low functionality, so I don't think that I'll use this feature much. It's sad because this was one of the features I have chosen Draytek ... :(
