2820n & Orange with 3G Huawei E1752 was created by baldydad
Got my Huawei E1752 working fine directly plugged into my laptop also checked out:
http://www.draytek.co.uk/support/kb_vigor_3g.html
checked the settings when working with laptop (service known as Internet Everywhere) and see APN= consumerbroadband with dial = *99***1#
I installed the latest o/s to the 2820n (3.3.3) and this should support E1752.
I see on a trawl of the web there is advice to make the APN = internetvpn but I think this is not for same service?
More trawling says people use *99# for dial.
When in the wizard it shows dial prefix ATDT.
I have tried many permutations of the 2 dial strings with & without the prefix command but to no avail.
Also tried the other known Orange APNs (orangeinternet, internetvpn etc) but get no where.
Laptop did not require pin or user name / password so left these blank in Vigor. Cannot get any connection.
All info appreciated before I do the head bang with Orange.
Thanks
PS. also tried on a Engenius ESR6650 but no joy either. "sim status not ready"

This is a known issue-- the E1752 is still too new for all the hics to get sorted yet even with the 3.3.3 firmware loaded.
Spoke to Andrew (very helpful) at Draytek UK support and he got it working.
Don`t persever in the dark hours--wait `till dawn & call them!
For Orange Internet Everywhere:
APN = consumerbroadband
Dial = ATDT*99# or ATDT*99***1# (both seem to work) you DO need ATDT string.
No user / pass / pin needed.
Thanks again to Andrew

Thanks for the advice baldydad!
I struggled for about 6 hours with this.
In the end, this was the reply from Draytek, and it worked first time:
The E1752 supplied by Orange seems to have issues with detecting
correctly, please do the following in the telnet interface of the
router with the 3G modem disconnected:
(assuming the router IP is 192.168.1.1, also please remove " quotes,
press the enter key once each of these commands has been entered)
1. Go to the Start menu, select Run and on there type "cmd" and click
OK, or if the Run option is not present, type "cmd" in the "Start
Search" textbox above the Start button and press enter.
2. Type "telnet 192.168.1.1"
3. Enter the password for the router.
4. Enter "wan modem force on"
5. You can then type "exit" to end the session.
In Windows Vista, Telnet is no longer available by default. To enable it, follow these steps:
1. Click the Windows Start button
2. Select Control Panel
3. Select Programs or the Programs and Features icon
4. Select Turn Windows Features On or Off
5. In the Windows Features box, locate 'Telnet' in the list, enable it, and click 'OK'.
The Telnet utility will now be available from Windows Vista.
Then reconnect the modem, ideally with no USB extension leads and
check whether it goes any further in detecting the modem. You can
check whether the modem is detected correctly by going to the router's
Online Status page, if detected it will show a small icon of a mobile
phone.
If you would like this to be fixed in a future firmware release,
please capture syslog from the router after plugging in the modem
before entering that command, then another capture ideally, after
entering that telnet setting.
You can get Syslog from here:
http://www.draytek.co.uk/support/download/Syslog_421_Win.zip
Syslog usage / setup guide:
http://www.draytek.co.uk/support/kb_vigor_syslog.html
Again, setting the APN to consumerbroadband or orangeinternet worked for me.
I'm using ATDT*99# to dial in.

Alastair,
out of curiosity--did you need to repeat the telnet routine everytime you plug in the E1752?
Andrew warned me I might need to repeat each time so I went out of my way to try and break it but it seems to initialise fine even after I swap it in & out of other laptops etc before putting back in Draytek. It`s as if something remains in the Draytek cache once you get over that first hurdle.
Good luck
Baldydad.
PS:
I don`t s`pose ur in N.I.?

No - it seems quite robust: I can pull the modem out, unplug the router, reboot it using the web interface, and it seems to recover fine.
My only issue is trying to work out how much data I have used...
I have an open ticket with orange asking whether they have a web page which allows me to check.
Alastair
P.S. In Devon....
