2820Vn Broadband keeps dropping was created by pb_shoey
Hi Everyone,

I am set up with be broadband using annex m, the connection syncs and i get very fast speeds. But was disconecting evey time a phone call came on.

To test this i was pinging google.com, you get a couple of request timed outs then then line dropped i also notice that the rx crc errors jump up.

When i spoke to my isp they noticed it was dropping so they have changed the snr on my line from 3 to 6 db.

My isp now they tell me they are not picking up any disconections.

I have tried 3 different microfilters, and two different phones with no difference.

I have also RMA the router to draytek twice replacing the PCB on both occasions but this has made now difference.

I have tried a netgear and a thompson router and both of these are working fine.

Any ideas anyone

Shoey

Just a wild idea: Burglar alarms connected to the telephone line need a microfilter solution too.

Yes, i have been trying to find the master socket what i have now found. there is no master socket here, there is more than one phone extension in the office as well as an alarm system, but they are all connected to one of these http://www.telephonesuk.co.uk/images/box_con_201D_20.jpg

I have got a speedtouch router which is conneected on this line without the dropouts, below is the current readings from it.

Uptime: 0 days, 23:37:56
Modulation: G.992.5 Annex M US 56
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 2,117 / 17,785
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [GB/GB]: 3.53 / 3.89
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 13.0 / 18.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 10.5 / 21.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.0 / 6.5
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / µ
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 18 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 1,047,329
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 1,248 / 29
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 36,027 / 19

What would be the best step, as the only thing is to get bt to look at this but this is going to cost me a small fortune.

Its not surprising it drops every time you get a phone call, the system is not properly filtered!

You have two options
1 put a microfilter on all extension sockets except the one with the router.
2 get BT to fit a master socket and then you fit a faceplate splitter

Option 2 is technically much better for broadband as all of the extension wiring is filtered off from the ADSL signal so you will get a much better connection speed. See my post

I recently fitted a Clarity hardwired filter to an alarm line: http://www.clarity.it/telecoms/adsl_hardwired.htm

with great improvements to the ADSL. The connection speed more than doubled too. Another delighted customer.

Neal.
