I have a DrayTek Vigor 2710Vn and a keen interest in its ability to network a USB drive, to get this going I upgraded the 2710 software to version 3.3.5.1
Using Linux or Windows XP, I am able to read and write files on the networked drive, which is good, but not good enough. My objective is to make music files accessible via the network to a Sonos music system, the trouble is that whilst the Sonos can read files OK from Samba 3.4.7, it won't read files from the DrayTek.
This begs the question which version of Samba is in the DrayTek software ?
From the Linux command line you can use the "smbclient" command to query an smb share: smbclient -L host
When querying a Samba share that works OK with Sonos kit it says: Server=[Samba 3.4.7]
When querying the DrayTek it says: Server=[Samba 0.5 Beta]
Wikipedia tells us versions 0.1, 0.5 and 1.0 of Samba all came out in January 1992 and that was before it got named Samba. Thus the "Samba 0.5 Beta" in DrayTek routers is something of a mystery.
Whatever it is, it doesn't do it for me.
Any ideas ?
