Vigor 2800 and 2820 using Domain Name for VPN Connection was created by daverb
Trying to figure this one out.
We have used our vigors for years using a broadband connection and VPN back to our office. The VPN is setup to use a IP address x.x.x.x
We changed this recently to a Domain name pointing to the same IP address.
The VPN's wont connect using the Domain Name unless we use the ISP's DNS servers. Normally we have the DNS servers set to our internal ones.
Im thinking this is along the lines of it cant talk to the DNS servers without the VPN being up so cant resolve the name?
I tried setting the Primary DNS to our internal server and Secondary DNS to the ISP server but this didnt work.
Strangely though I can see from our firewall that the router is connecting and passes Phase 1 of the connection but fails at Phase 2. So in this case its not just as simple as it cant resolve the Domain Name because it must be to be able to find the Firewall and start trying to connect?:? :?
Any help greatly appreciated.

have you set up some forwarders on your internal DNS servers to point to your ISP's DNS resolvers?
if not, see if that fixes it.
