Differences between modem codes? was created by ryster
Hi all
I've just updated to 3.3.5.2 on my Vigor 2820n router using the 211011 modem code version and was wondering... there are several different modem code versions of 3.3.5.2.
What is the difference between all of them? Will they all work on my router and what advantages are there to each?
Thanks all.
Ryan

Draytek tweak the ADSL firmware for different regions and DSLAM configurations. The code you have, 211011, is the standard modem code.
Code 232201 is what Draytek recommend for UK users. I have previously been in contact with support who advided trying 211801 for my line which has very low SNR. Didn't do too much but I saw a decrease in errors and a slight improvement in SNR but at the cost of lower download sync speed.
You should be able to try all firmwares if you like but I am not aware of any documentation which explains the exact differences in more detail.

We sell & install hundreds of drayteks... I've asked support for detailed information on the modem codes but was told this information can't be given outand is only for draytek engineers

It seems to me that the 211011 modem code is actually better for me than the recommended one for the UK (232201). I seem to get higher download speeds, and slightly improved latency on my BT 21CN connection.

You've got to say that this is ludicrous!
What's the point of publishing the different modem code firmwares without offering any information on what might (or might not) be most suitable for any particular setup?
