Problem solved with the assiatnce of George at Draytek. It turned out to be a twofold problem:
1. I had not upgraded the firmware on the router
2. My Windows 7 ethernet driver needed re-installing.
So to conclude - the USB STick 615 works well despite T-Mobile telling me it wouldn't work!
