2820 Bricked with new Firmware ? was created by ramblin
I am hoping I am wrong, but I think I just bricked my Draytek 2820

If anyone can help me recover, PLEASE help.

I have a Vigor 2820vN Annex A

I went to the Draytek site to see if there was a new firmware version, since I have been having some issues with VOIP and some of the forums suggested a firmware upgrade had solved their problems.

I downloaded Vigor2820_V3.3.7.1A__STD211011, unzipped it, went to the Vigor web interface at
System Maintenance -> Firmware Upgrade
browsed to the spot on my PC where the
v2820_v3371_211011_A.all
file was located, selected it, initiated the firmware upgrade process and waited for the screen to display Restart at which time I clicked the Restart button

I can no longer see the router through any web interface.
All the lights on the front panel are on except the DSL line
My router says there is a device at 192.168.1.140, but I tried
- pointing my browser to that address
- SSH'ing to that address with Putty
- telnetting to that address with Putty
all with no luck

I pressed (and held for 20 seconds) the Factory Reset button
No change

Anyone know what has happened?
And what I can do to recover my Draytek?

I love the device (when it was working) and would sure like it back.

Got it back thanks to posts elsewhere on this forum - thank you ALL !!

Here's what I di

Thank you for all the ideas up top

I was getting the exact same response (timeout) on my unit when I tried to use the Draytek tftp client to upload new firmware using the tftp boot.

However, on a whim, I thought, hold on, if it is timing out, how about if I use a faster port? So I plugged into the gigabit LAN port instead of the other ones I had been trying and it worked.

So for me, as a summary of what worked, here it is:
While connected to the internet:
1) Read forums first - then upgrade firmware !!
2) If you have bricked the Vigor, download the Draytkek tftp server from
http://www.draytek.co.uk/support/download/tftp302.zip
3) Download the current firmware, unzip

Now disconnect from the internet and set your PC to a fixed IP (I used 192.168.1.220)
4) Connect the PC to the gigabit Port on the LAN set of the Draytek
5) Launch the Draytek tftp utility on the PC
5a- Browse to locate the .rst file from the unzipped firmware set
5b- Set the Host to 192.168.1.1
6) Turn off the Draytek - wait 10 seconds
7) Press in the Factory Reset Button and hold it in while turning on the Draytek
( once the lights start flashing, release the reset button)
8) Click on the Send button on the tftp Utility on the PC and clcik OK to confirm you want to upgrade
( do this quickly before the boot-loader times out)

Wait - it takes a while after the upload is complete before the Draytek reconfigures itself and reboots.

You're back in business
