The change to a Netgear DGND3700 seems (unfortunately for me) to have overcome the problem.
I have also tried a second 2820N and that suffers the exact same symptoms.
That now makes four Drayteks that have ended up in the round filing cabinet on the floor in the last 10 years.
I think there is a message lurking somewhere.

I had a similar issue that was traced to a Dell D630 on wifi - converting it to a wired connection resulted in a stable 2820n. What are your clients - HW and OS and connection type?

Can you tell me a little more about this firmware and why it is more suitable for my adsl 2+ circuit?
