Virgin broadband setup problem was created by parkie
I want to replace my D-Link router with a Vigor2830. I've entered the correct username & password & double checked them but it still says WAN1 disconnected. It's PPoA & all other settings are OK. The DSL light is active, just no connection. If I put the Dlink back in all is OK again. Does anyone have any suggestions? I was wondering if Virgin somehow logged which router is being used to connect.

Hi
I am guessing is VM national broadband adsl service
Read this page for the correct parameters
http://help.virginmedia.com/system/selfservice.controller?CONFIGURATION=1002&PARTITION_ID=1&TIMEZONE_OFFSET&USERTYPE=1&VM_CUSTOMER_TYPE&CMD=VIEW_ARTICLE&ARTICLE_ID=327753
You also need VCI 38 & VPI 0 & change to reccomented MTU 1458
I believe you must forgot one more page to set up
Go to WAN >> General Setup>>wan 1>>enable YES>>Active Mode: Always on>>click ok to save
You can right a name for your connection if you want at Display Name:
Now go to WAN >> Internet Access>>wan 1>>choice from the drop window PPPOE/PPPOA then details page TAB >> click it>>Next page top left tab pppoe>>click enable>>set the settings/parameters as described by VM & user name & pass >> click OK to save
It should work now/Good Luck
