Hi all I have just switched from DSL to Vodafone Fiber in Ireland. They supplied a Huawei HG658c which is a an awful router but I have no choice but to use it. I can bridge the 658 using this guide

but cannot get the Draytek 2820n to make a connection to the outside world. Can anyone help me configure the Draytek as PPPoE running DHCP to connect to the 658c in bridge. I have a config on the 2820n with over 100 clients with static IP's & mac address filtered connecting into a patch bay to 2 airport Extremes and an Airport Express. Remapping everything will be a nightmare and the Huawei is simply inferior (speed, throughput, stability etc) compared to the 2820n.

Would really appreciate any help. Cheers.

i am not with vodafone but here is a basic guide to bridge it
from phone socket, cable to to the 658c ... from lan 1 port of the 658c to the incoming wan2 port of the 2820 (wan 2) not the wan 1 of the adsl

assuming the HG658 is bridged (bridge mode) ... then at 2820 try
WAN >> General Setup disable wan 1
wan 2 enable yes ...
physical mode ethernet, type auto navigation
active mode always on
then ... WAN >> Internet Access>> PPPoE (tab)
enable top right
set username & pass from your online account
MTU 1492

Hi thanks for the info. Unfortunately i still cannot ping the Huawei when I apply the above config. A Cat 5e patch is connected from wan 2 on the 2820n to ethernet 1 on the Huawei.

I have the Huawei in PPPoE bridge mode and wan2 active with wan 1 disabled on the 2820n. Could there be anything else on the 2820n that would prevent the Huawei being reachable?

if the huawei is bridged it may not let you to ping or see its stats at bridge mode when you take out the cable of the pc and connect the 2820 with bridge mode and PPPoE is normal ... remember to reboot both modems
however is not working the internet? apart can not ping the huawei?

you can also try an other method (not at bridge mode the huawei) but can not direct you in the menus where can be find in the huawei ... should be under lan
Change the ip of the huawei modem to 192.168.0.1 (keep same settings and username & pass) and note the subnet musk
You also make sure the DHCP section, range is up to 192.168.0.100 ( i think is at lan as well)
remember when you change the ip of the huawei you may need to reboot your pc you setting it or go at network & sharing centre and set temporary the range of the pc at 192.168.0.2

now set back the ip range of your pc to auto and at 2820 instead of PPPoE set DHCP
WAN >> Internet Access>>static or dynamic ip
enable
mode always on
specify an ip address
ip address 192.168.0.100
subnet musk the one you note from the huawei (usually 255.255.255.255) or last with 255.255.255.0
gateaway ip address the one you have change 192.168.0.1

reboot both modems
if all go well then if you typoe in your browser 192.168.0.1 should see the huawei menu and typing 192.168.1.1 should see the 2820 menu

But setting it with the 1st method is more easy and should work but not ping or see the menu of the bridged modem

Thanks for the info on the 2nd method. Will give it a try in a bit. When using method 1 there was no internet access but I just noticed on the 2820 system status page both Wan 1 and Wan 2 link statuses are showing 'Disconnected'. I'd expect that of Wan 1 but is there any reason (apart from a faulty port) my Wan 2 would show as disconnected? Cheers.

If you not set the huawei correct or the 2820 (pppoe or dhcp) then it will show as disconnected but you need to enable the wan 2 port as well but you did
check with your community if you have the correct username or password if needs in the 2820

also with method 1 just try with the modem as it from your isp (original settings) and then at the 2830 set it with PPPoE mode

looking the pictures of the link ... then with option 2
you need to change in LAN>dhcpv4 server the lan host settings to 192.168.0.1 & dhcp option pool 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.100 (but some times the ip range not need to set it but is a must to change the ip of the huwei to 192.168.0.1 also the subnet mask there is 255.255.255.0 for what you need
