Vigor 2925 configuration issues was created by acharris76
Hi,

I'm having real difficulties setting up the router.

I'm not bad when it comes to tech, but not a specialist!

But.....

(a) access to the router setup webpage (or via the iOS app) is sporadic which makes setup impossible! I can telnet into the router but I wouldn't know what to do once connected. Strangely if I disconnect both of the WAN ethernet cables it works fine. I have a Virgin Superhub 2 which is set to modem only mode and a Draytek 130 modem for the connection to BT Infinity. All the other routers on the network, all Apple Airport units, are set to bridge mode.

(b) I have turned on UPNP so that I can continue to use a VNC service (Screens by Edovia) which worked perfectly before I introduced the 2925 to my setup, but now that only works sporadically. I did get it to work by separately open port 5900 and then setting up a port direction rule, but this only allowed me to access one of the computers on my home network, not both. I did try to open port 5901 and direct it to the second computer on the network but that didn't work - I couldn't get the port to open!

(c) I previously posted looking for help setting up some route policy rules as what I really want to be able to achieve is that the Virgin Media WAN connection is used by everything on the home network except for a security webcam I have which I want to use the BT Infinity WAN connection, with a failure rule for both to the other WAN, but I cannot figure out how to do it. I only want the webcam to use the BT Infinity WAN connection so that there is something using it as I have read that if you don't use BT Infinity, the modem can lose connection to their network and the whole point was to have BT as a redundant internet connection - not any use if it doesn't work for lack of use (if that makes sense).

Starting to think I should not have bothered with this router in the first place - all I wanted was to have an automatic switch to a second internet supply if there were problems with Virgin.

Any help gratefully appreciated!

Anthony

Hi Anthony, did you ever get anywhere with the problems you've listed here ?
I've just stumbled across your post and your setup is VERY similar to mine (BT/VIrgin & 2925) even down to routing traffic out over specific WAN interfaces, so might be able to offer some advice if it's still an issue.
The 2925 has proved to be a very reliable piece of kit, the Virgin Superhub in modem mode has been the only problem I have had (it's a very strange and intermittent issue !) the BT line has been rock solid.
Regards
Simon

Hi, In the end I gave up as it was too much like hard work, but would be interested to know how you solved the problem. Anthony
