Upgrading from 2820 to 2860 - can I just backup & restore?

Hi all,

I'm currently using a 2820 with ADSL and going to buy a 2860 soon in preparation of fibre. (Although reading some of the posts here I'm having second thoughts, but that's another topic).

I've done a whole lot of changes (WAN2, non-NAT, load balancing, VPN, etc) to the config in the 2820, and I'm worried that I may never be able to get it exactly how I want it again on the 2860.

So, can I just make a back up of the 2820 config, then restore the backup file to the 2860?

Thanks.

You can go Vigor 2830 -> 2860 and 28850 -> 2860 but Vigor 2820 is a very old unit and on
a much older platform/format.

Ok no problem thanks guys.

Hopefully I'll be able to have both on the network, so I can have two browser pages open, and copy them page by page.

Bit curious as to why it says this on the "Configuration Backup / Restoration" tab on the 2860 under "Supported Model List" then:

Model
Vigor2820

Firmware Version
3.3.7.4

Note
Due to different LAN ports between Vigor2820 and Vigor2860, the function "LAN>>VLAN" will be disabled after restarting Vigor2860.The configuration of WAN2 in Vigor2820 will not be converted and applied to WAN2 in Vigor2860 if the physical mode in Vigor2820 is not Ethernet

...or, is it that this doesn't work in reality?

Oh, that's new and certainly not in the list I had about what you can move from and to... but maybe it's changed! If it works, I stand corrected... but I'd look out for oddities after the transfer!
