Does anyone know if a Draytek Router, [2860] could bond two LAN ports to uplink to another Gigabit switch, that supported bonding, to increase bandwidth?

Don't want to create a loop, so wondered if it supported one of the various channel bonding methods. All would be on the same flat LAN, no VLANS etc.


Idea is as such:

[Draytek 2860] <----2x 1Gbps CAT6----> [16 Port Gigabit Switch]

No they don't. There's no point on a device designed for WAN connectivity.

CAT6 wiring is designed for 10Gbs-1 so no need for that either but it wont do any harm. Cat 5e is designed for 1Gb and somewhat cheaper.

Looking at your diagram, why on earth would you want to cause massive buffering on the Draytek? 8) Think in terms of water flows and you'll see what I mean. In simple terms, you want to try and push 2Gbs-1 into the Draytek whilst having a, say, 80/20Mbs-1 connection on the other side. Another way of looking at it is imagine the widest bit of the M25 around London (7 lanes) feeding directly into a dual carriageway. There will be a traffic jam.

If you have 2 x 1Gb WAN links plugged into the Draytek to vaguely justify the bonding then you have the wrong device - not powerful enough.

have a 16 port switch and need 18 ports I guess
