Failover on 2830 not working was created by dansw
Hi, ever since I got this router I have failed to get Failover to work. We have two WANS, WAN1 (BT) and WAN2 (VirginMedia). WAN2 is always on and WAN1 is meant to be backup for when WAN2 goes down. Even when WAN2 is showing as disconnected WAN1 never fires up.

I have had to resort to disabling WAN1 and if WAN2 goes down I then manually enable WAN1. Here are the failover settings that don't seem to work:

WAN1 (meant to be backup)

Enable: Yes
Display Name:BT
Active Mode: Backup
Load Balance: (not ticked)
WAN 1 WAN 2 (ticked) WAN 3
Backup Type: When all of selected WAN disconnect

WAN2 (primary WAN)

Enable: Yes
Display Name:Virgin
Active Mode: Always On
Load Balance: (not ticked)

Where could I be going wrong?

Thanks

Dan

Tick-Enable Load Balance for both and for WAN1 select "When any of selected WAN disconnect"

Thanks Fchef, so the key here is enabling 'Load balance'? Just trying to better my understanding! I was originally told this by Draytek:

Under these settings you have the option for active mode to be either Always On or Backup. Using backup will mean the connection is only
used when the first device fails. Un-tick the Load balance option on the backup connection and it will only be used when there is a failover problem.

which implies it should work in a non load balance way.
