2830n DHCP lease renewal problems with VPN

I work from home a lot of the time from a laptop connected via a VPN client to the network at the office.
I was seeing a problem with the VPN connection dropping out occasionally because the local IP address of my laptop was changed.

I did some very basic analysis and it appears, though I'm not completely sure I'm correct, that the 2830n is renewing the DHCP lease and assigning a new IP address to my laptop. My hunch is that the 2830n attempts to compact the used IP numbering range by renewing the lease with the next available lowest numbered IP address in the available DHCP range.

I do know that if I assign a static IP address to the Laptop's mac address then the VPN never drops. Static IP addresses are a bit of a pain so it would be really nice to understand if there is a better solution to the problem.

Has anyone else ever seen this issue or have any thoughts on it?

An alternative might be to bind an IP to your MAC address, that way you'll always have the same IP address but with the benefit of DHCP.
