DHCP Pool Greater Than 253 was created by lectrician
Hi.

I had assumed if I se the subnet mask to 255.255.254.0, I would have an IP range of 192.168.6.1-192.168.7.254, so 510 host addresses. The router config page allows you to enter a larger number.

However, it would seem it's still limited to .6 subnet. Has soon as address 6.254 is used, further users cannot connect, and the DHCP lease table under diagnostics shows just the .6

I have a 2830 and 2860 set this way, and cannot confirm how it works on the 2860 yet.

Is this not a valid configuration option?

If not, I will have to use PFSense for my DHCP.

Thanks.

From the Vigor 2860 manual...

IP Pool Counts - Enter the maximum number of PCs that you
want the DHCP server to assign IP addresses to. The default is
50 and the maximum is 253.

I would guess the Vigor 2960/3900/2952 etc. allow more

Why are the routers FWs locked to only allow 253 DHCP clients?
I feel that this is a massive overside for a business class product range

It might change with later firmware versions as well.
Right now though, the Vigor 3900 and 2960 routers support larger DHCP pools.

If it's causing an issue for you, you could try contacting support to see if it's possible or not.

I don't think it was intentional, but the Vigor 2860 series etc were originally aimed at smaller networks, while the Vigor 29xx and 3xxx products cater to larger network designs.
