Slower sync with 2860 than 2820 was created by sum1quiet
Hi all,

I've had a 2820n for a long time and it's been pretty bullet proof, but I bought a 2860n for it's VDSL capabilities (if FTTC ever gets to my area...) and have recently decided to upgrade to it even while using ADSL2+. The trouble I'm having is, pretty reliably, the 2860 syncs about 1.5-2mbit lower than the 2820. Everything else stays the same, just the sync is slower, even with the same SNR and attenuation.

I don't know if it's a myth or actually true, but is it true that the modem type can actually have a bearing on the sync speed? I'm just wondering what modem type was in the 2820 and what is now in the 2860, and whether or not I can bring the 2860 in line with the 2820 somehow. The 2860 is on the 3.8.2.3BT firmware and the 2820 is on 3.3.7.8.

Thanks in advance.

So I downgraded my 2860 back to the original 3.7.3.3 and lo and behold I now have a completely stable line with NO TX or RX errors, compared to the hundreds / thousands I got when I was using the latest recommended firmware. Only downside is I can't adjust my SNR.

Anyone else seen this behaviour?

More testing - updated to 3.8.2.3_STD using the 548006_544401 modem code. This is again giving me 100% stability with no errors, however this one doesn't allow me to modify my SNR.

Any chance of that feature making it into the next version?
