Unauthorized APs was created by andrew2010
Hi,

I'm using a Vigor 2860Vac and two AP 910-C access points, which are wired to my network. All devices are using the latest firmware.

The problem I have is that when using Central AP Management, both the APs show up in the Dashboard and Status page in red and are noted as Unauthorized.

I'm aware that this usually means the password for the devices needs to be updated (I have indeed changed the defult password of 'admin' on each AP). However, no matter how many times I enter the new password in the password settings (both in Central AP Management and the External Devices), the devices remain unauthorized.

I cannot provoision the APs from the router, but they otherwise work fine.

Any insights are gratefully recieved.

Kind regards.

Andrew

does the password match what is set on the individual AP?

Hi - Yes - unless something very odd is happening on that front, my careful copying and pasting should be ensuring that.

If anyone is interested, I sorted this problem. It's something of a design fault I think.

The APs themselves can have passwords of 20+ characters - I don't know the maximum but at least that long. However, in Central AP Management the router only seems to be able to hold 16 characters - so doesn't properly authorise APs with longer passwords.

Not exactly a helpful feature!

Thanks to sicon, whose question got me thinking and led me to dicover this.
