Time Server question? was created by theia
Hi,

Under power off then on conditions, if either my Vigor 2850 or the AP900 boot, the Date Time of those units reset to 1st January.

In the manual it says " You can inquiry an NTP server (a time server) on the Internet to synchronize the AP’s clock.
This method can only be applied when the WAN connection has been built up
"

I am not clear what "when the WAN connection has been built up" means.

Would someone explain please, and also let me know if 'Use NTP Client" and "pool.ntp.org" are the best settings to use to avoid the units resetting to 1st January?
Finally, I would like to know when is the best situation / or an advantage to use the "Use Browser Time" setting?

Thanks in advance

Presumably it means when you have a working WAN connection to the internet.

If you don't have that then "use browser time" will enable you to quickly set the date and time - on my 2860 this setting is not retained, it defaults back to internet time after use.

pool.ntp.org works for me but other time servers are available

For the APs, that means that the AP must have a Gateway IP address and have a route to Internet access with working DNS. So it either gets an IP via DHCP (preferable) or Gateway and DNS are set manually (in LAN > General Setup)
For the router, it should get NTP as soon as it's online or shortly after.

I do find pool.ntp.org tends to work well.

Use Browser Time simply takes the time from the PC that's accessing its web UI via the browser, it doesn't persist after a reboot / power cycle.
