2860 & 910ac issues was created by stevenqpr
Hi Guys - I'm hoping you can help stop me tearing whats remaining of my hair out...

I have a small cat6 network of which consists of a 2860 router, P2261 switch and 3x 910ac access points. I did start off with a 2760 router and could access that on the wifi through the 192.168.1.1 address. I've since upgraded to the 2860 because of the AP management but can now not access the new router at all unless i plug into it directly! I've reset absolutely everything to factory settings but have completely run out of ideas, you are my last hope!

Thanks!!
Steven

Hi Steven,
Can we go through some isolating steps here to see where the problem is ?
1 - you can plug into the LAN port on the 2860 and access it fine
2 - I'm assuming the P2261 is plugged into the 2860, so what happens if you plug into the P2261, can you still access the 2860 ?
3 - Which device is giving you an IP address (DHCP) when you're wireless (I'm assuming that's when you are getting the problem)
More than happy to chip in and help out - this shouldn't be too hard to sort out (hmm, heard that one before ;) )

Assuming a test network, I'd expect something like this on the LAN side: (no VLANs setup here)
2860 = 192.168.1.1/24
DHCP scope ON = 192.168.1.20/24, say 50 addresses, GW 192.168.1.1
P2261 = management IP address 192.168.1.5/24, GW 192.168.1.1
AP1 = 192.168.1.11/24, GW 192.168.11.1, no DHCP (DHCP server disabled, no relay agent)
AP2 = 192.168.1.12/24, GW 192.168.11.1, no DHCP (DHCP server disabled, no relay agent)
AP3 = 192.168.1.13/24, GW 192.168.11.1, no DHCP (DHCP server disabled, no relay agent)

Cheers
Simon

Hi Simon,

Thanks for your reply - quite honestly I gave it up on Saturday night and needed to not think about it for a couple of days!!

I'm back on it now, all 3x APs work absolutely fine when I plug them into the router directly. Once I'm connected to them (all separate APs at the moment) I can login to the router and even the switch. However, as soon as I mount them in their proposed locations and they obtain their power from the POE switch, I can no longer access the internet/router/AP's/switch. Therefore perhaps it's a switching issue? I haven't played with any of it's config which may be the problem?

:?

Are they getting power over POE or are they plugged into a PSU here?

If the main change is moving from a PSU to power via POE then I would try plugging in the PSU temporarily at the end location to test. This would indicate a POE problem. Anything from complete absence of POE to an unacceptable voltage drop.

Also what happens if you plug them in locally to the switch and test individually, could be a switching if a smart switch of some sort.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your post - I'll give those a try this evening and will get back to you. Just FYI I get the flashing blue light on the APs when they're powered by the switch.

Thanks,
Steven
