2860n - Port 8001 open was created by chrisw
Following an unexpected visit from Shodan I discovered that port 8001 on my 2860n is apparently open and is now documented for the world to find!

I'm suspicious that this might be some internal router function (possibly related to the newly released Hotspot Web Portal) as I can't find anything else on my network using this port. Is anyone else running version 3.8.4.3_BT able to confirm whether their port 8001 is open [for example by a custom port test on http://www.whatsmyip.org/port-scanner/ ]?

Shodan also alerted me to some other things that I was not aware of leaking onto the internet... Mainly relating to i) Draytek SSL self signed certificates inadvertently containing personal email or ii) DynamicDNS hostname on a 3CX server revealing too much - neither item I expected the world to be able to see. You live and learn!!!

Thanks,
Chris

I can see this port open on all my 2860 routers (3 sites). Anyone know what this is and if it actually should be open?

Note: it appears that you can 'close' it by adding in a dummy port map.

Ah yes, that fixes it - now forwarded to an unused IP. I still wonder why 8001 was open in the first place...

I think 8001 was a bug; they'll fix it, but it doesn't respond or provide any security risk AFAIK.

Ok, 8001 was a bug probably. Moving on, I see 8043 too so what's that? Anyone have any ideas?

Like 8001 I cannot get any clue by telneting 8043.

I just scanned my router for all 65535 ports and the only two rouge ones are 8001 and 8043. All the other ports I know.
