pppoa/pppoe IPv4 was created by scrumbeans
Hi

I have just bought an Asus rt- ac87u router only to discover that it does not support pppoa. So I'm now trying to find a modem that bridges pppoa/pppoe which the DrayTek 120 and 130 appear to do.

However, the specifications seem to suggest that this functionality only works with the IPv6 protocol, where as here, on the Isle of Man they still have IPv4. So before I buy could some one just confirm if this is correct or whether I can bridge pppoa/pppoe with IPv4?

Kind regards

Mark

I think you are a bit confused.

The Asus RT-AC range are cable routers that require a separate modem. You can't connect to the internet without that modem, or the modem side of an DSL modem router.

Asus support PPPOA and PPPOE.

The Vigor 130 is a good choice and works perfectly with the Asus , usually out of the box without changing settings.

I run the Vigor130 connected to an Asus RT-AC3200 (previously had the AC87U) I am on a BT based VDSL2 (FTTC) service using IPv4.

When I had an ADSL2+ connection I ran Asus routers on PPPOA without any issue.
