Setup as wired repeater possible was created by eternal-student
Hi,
Apologies this might be a really simple question.
I have a new Draytek 2860ac router which replaced an older Draytek 2820n. I wanted to setup the old 2820 to extend the range of the wireless. I can see there are a few articles about using it as a wireless repeater, but I wanted to know, is it a similar process to set it up as a wired repeater (probably not as you don't need to use WDS?).. or would this just be classed as a wired repeater? I was intending to run a single cable down the side of the house to supply the network connection from the newer 2860. Is this possible?
Is it just as simple as connecting it via ethernet to the 2860 and then setting the wireless settings as the same, with the same WiFi ID and encryption level but broadcast on a different channel?
Many thanks in advance. Stephen

Many thanks for this. It seems I was just getting confused with what to call a wired repeater.. I guess it's just an access point! All setup now and working.. many thanks.
