Vigor 2862 & VigorAP902 was created by jessejames690
Hi there

Im hoping someone can help. I have recently purchased a 2862 to do away with the BT home hub. Set up was a dream. However with the router being placed within a cupboard I purchaee an AP902 access point. I have managed to log in to the AP and update the firmware, however ive no clue how you connect it wirelessly to the router so we can actually use it?? Is it ridiculously simple and im missing something.

James

Use WDS-Bridge mode in one of the wifi bands with MAC address of the AP902 in the router settings and the MAC address of the router in the AP902 settings. Using 5GHz should give you greater bandwidth but will probably only work if the devices are relatively close. 2.4GHz more reliable but a cable connection is better stil

Suppose i could drill a hole in the one wall and wire it in. Again im thick here but which input on he 902 would you wire into

Any of them. The 5 LAN ports are simply a switch, unless you configure the top one (LAN B) differently. One of them is also the PoE connection but if you are connecting directly to the router that will not concern you.

Obviously if connecting by cable you would just run the 902 in AP mode, unless you want it to link to another AP further away.

Ok persevering with the wireless route. Where do you put the mac address of the router in the AP??

In Wireless LAN - General Setup for the band on which you have enabled AP Bridge-WDS there are 4 boxes at the bottom for the peer MAC addresses. Just put the appropriate MAC address in box 1. You'll find that under the router System Maintenance-System Status page. Leave security box as disabled, all you need is the MAC address in box 1.
