Hi, I'm trying to replace a TG588v adsl modem/router with a 2862, in order to use the VPN capabilities of the 2862. The TG588v works fine on the ADSL2+ line. However, the 2862 appears to achieve dsl sync (green light flashes initially, then flashes faster, then becomes steady) but does not give me an internet connection. The ACT light is flashing as normal.

I'm confident I have the correct username and password and the other settings are WAN 1 enabled, Multi-PVC channel 1, VPI 0, VCI 38, VCMUX, PPPoA, Modulation Multimode

When I look at the WAN1 status there is no IP address displayed and in the top right corner of the box is displayed >> Dial PPPoA

Can anyone help please? The 2862 is new and has 3.8.6 firmware

You are using PPPoE and not Static or Dynamic IP?

On the WAN/Internet Access page the 'Access Mode' is PPPoE/PPPoA
On the corresponding Details page the protocol selected is PPPoA

I'm not using a static IP

Shouldn't it be PPPoE?

Perhaps it should, but the original TG588 router (which does work and is what I'm wanting to replace with the 2862) is set to PPPoA.
But I'll test this tomorrow morning and let you know (working away from home right now)

from memory, our ADSL2 on BT was PPPoA. when we had a modem and a router, the modem connected to BT using PPPoA, and the router connected to the modem using PPPoE.
