Bandwidth Limitation List - some basic questions... was created by theia
Hi guys,
I have looked online at FAQ's etc re the Bandwidth Limitation List, but when using them in practice it raises some questions that I am not clear about
Example Limitation List
Index Start IP/Group End IP/Object TX limit RX Limit Shared
1 192.168.1.120 192.168.1.120 200 2500K Y
2 192.168.1.140 192.168.1.149 `200 2500K Y
3 192.168.1.160 192.168.1.169 200 3500K Y
4 192.168.1.180 192.168.1.189 200 3500K Y
5 192.168.1.200 192.168.1.209 200 3500K Y
- Default TX Limit Per User: 200k Default RX Limit Per User: 800k
- Allow auto adjustment to assign available bandwidth equally to active user ticked as ON
- There is a maximum d/l limit of 5024Kbps for the ADSL connection.
Question 1:
If Both the Bandwidth limitation limit is simply set to DISABLE ) and 'Allow auto adjustment to assign available bandwidth equally to active user ' box is ticked to be ON .
As shown in the above ficticious example, am I right in thinking that this simply shares out available bandwidth equally to all active users ignoring any limits shown on the limitation list?
Question 2:
In the example, if the Bandwidth limit is set to ENABLE and that 'Allow auto adjustment to assign available bandwidth equally to active user ' is now unticked /cleared as OFF
I think all the available bandwidth would still be available - but users would only get up to the maximum connection as shown in their Tx and Rx limit.
e.g. user 192.168.1.120 or ip's 140-149 would only get a maximum download of 2500 Kbps.
Should it exceed thir maximum limit, even if more bandwidth is available?
Question 3:
In the example, the Bandwidth limit is set to ENABLE and that 'Allow auto adjustment to assign available bandwidth equally to active user ' is now ALSO ticked to be ON
I read this as 'the sharing out starts equally, up tothe maximum limit of each user', but actually will give more than the maximum limit if more bandwidth is available. Is that correct?
Question 4:
In the example, the Bandwidth limit is set to DISABLE and that 'Allow auto adjustment to assign available bandwidth equally to active user ' is now unticked /cleared as OFF
I read this as 'initially share out with default settings of 200Tx and 800Rx. Is that correct?
Question 5:
What should be some useful speeds for manually giving users individual maximum limits for speeds - should I start high or low? There is a total max download available of 5024Kbps....
I simply was thinking 'Is it advantageous to set all main user IP's maximum Rx speed to 5024 (or even 0 ) - or does that cause the router to be 'so busy' processing what's happening and working out how to allocate the 5024Kbps available bandwidth that the router becomes generally slower for everyone?
