Vigor 130 Modem & BT Fibre Update was created by mychips70
Hope i can describe this suitably, I have been using my Vigor 130 modem with no problems and has been more suitable for my set up than the BT Smart Hub 1 i previously had. I am currently subscribed to BT's Superfast Fibre Plus and have download speeds of around 45 and uploads of 6.5. Whilst checking my bill today there is a no fee upgrade available but unsure is it will work with myy modem as they want to supply the new BT Smart Hub 2 all the info they say is the following "You’re currently on the old copper network which is less stable and slower than our new fibre network. We’re currently moving all of our copper customers to fibre for free". I have come across some info that say the new modem is FTTP and G.Fast capable.

Hope all makes some sort of sense, just dont want to upgrade and find out my kit doesnt work correctly.

Thanks

It sounds as if you might be getting FTTP, in which case the Vigor 130 would no longer work as this uses a different modem.

The BT Smart Hub 2 supports ADSL, VDSL & G.fast. There looks to be a variant for FTTP which uses a LAN port for the WAN connection to the FTTP modem (OTC).

You'd need to ask exactly what you'd be upgrading to, if FTTP then the Vigor 130 would no longer work, if still FTTC it'll still work.

The upgrade to fibre means FTTP/H , that uses an ONT in place of the modem.

You can use suitable 3rd party routers in place of the BT Hub if you wish.

Forget GFAST as that only applies to FTTC services.

Dragging this back up, i had this on my BT account when i logged in.

FWIU, it is really just about the FTTC they are/were building.

So basically, probably false advertising - because BT.

You are wrong ......... BT/Openreach are upgrading FTTC to FTTP in may areas and the offer quoted is 100% genuine.
